    Resourceful and enthusiastic Research Scientist, currently working on the formulation and characterisation of polymer-bonded energetic composites. Specialised experimental and theoretical knowledge of colloidal polymer latexes and penetrant transport. 'Hands-on' experience of a range of material evaluation and characterisation techniques, benefiting from a successful background in both physics and chemistry. Computer literate, with extensive knowledge of PC software systems and computer-driven analytical instrumentation. Good investigative and organisational skills. Enjoys the responsibility and challenge of project management. Innovative and tenacious in achieving goals. Conscientious by nature, well motivated, and with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a wide spectrum of people.

Hobbies & Interests
  • Have a keen interest in computers and computing: providing 'technical support' for both software/hardware to friends and colleagues.
    Have practical knowledge of the internal components of personal computers, and have fitted disk drives, processors, memory, add-in cards, etc.
    Prepare desktop published posters, camera-ready technical papers for publication, etc. for friends and colleagues.
    Won £300 worth of software for programming a 'WordPerfect for Windows' macro.

  • Enjoy reading and photography, and also entering competitions.
  • Have a passive interest in most sports, and play 'pitch and putt' golf whenever possible.
  • Played the cornet for over sixteen years with various school, college and polytechnic brass bands and wind orchestras, and also with bands external to the education system.
    Represented the Borough of Sandwell - playing solo cornet - with the Sandwell Schools' Youth Brass Band, with whom I toured Germany and played at the Schools' Promenade Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
    In the same period, also played with the local junior band (Langley Junior), and won medals and trophies both for solo playing and with the band as a whole.
    Was the youngest member of Langley Prize Band, a Championship Section contest band, whilst still at school.
    Have performed on a number of LP records and cassette tapes, and have appeared on television and performed on the radio several times.
